And we’re in it

Double Coconut looks like a great fit and we’re off.

A monstrous GDD has been born into the world. It’s quite detailed but missing so much! But enough to bring the doula online and start timing contractions.

It’s still the UMP at this point; I am hoping that when the gameplay starts to crystallize and the 1st units take horrific form and the whole experience starts to feel like something, then those looks and those feels will inform a short list of great names from which we will pluck the best. Like Queen Of Horrorworld, but maybe 33% less cheesy? Or 300% cheesier, I may not be able to fight my based nature.

So what’s been accomplished?

  • Working relationship w/Double Coconut, a tentative schedule for conversations and initial deliverables

  • Working relationship w/artist KB and some iterations on concepts (probably highlight next month)

  • Further refined many outstanding concepts (scale and LOS, movement, &c.) and shed some long-loved but homeless concepts (hexes)

  • Invested heavy time into the Unity RTS Engine by SoumiDelRio in one of our first build-or-buy decisions; it will prove to be a very good decision

Gosh that doesn’t seem like a lot, but part of that is my being in Barcelona this month, on an exploratory expedition preparatory to moving here. And the results of that expedition are; yes, please, the sooner the better. Barcelona throws up a barrier or two to smooth communication with the US, but it’s a small price to pay. Also the uprooting of a life and the distancing between the self and the known familiar world back home, &c., are all prices to pay. But I’m ready to invest in my life as an adventure and not just a state of doing. If all holds steady and true I’ll transition here permanently Jan 2022. Fingers crossed so hard.

OK so what’s next now?

  • Detailed integration with Unity RTS Engine, making our data and concepts meet their existing functionality and possibilities

  • Formalize a working agreement with NC and what can we do together? World-modelling or something even more deeperer?

  • Launch meeting with full Double Coconut team and set the 1st 2 sprints

  • Push the Fear vs Flesh concept to fruition (probably next blog)

Very excited! Will be amazing to watch this get birthed step-by-step! This is why I am blogging; I know I will forget these early moments, the early decisions , the early excitement. I want to hold on to it for later! I want things and feelings, I want to respect the hard work and all the details and not just look at some beautiful finished project and forget where it came from.
